Chapter 979
"Jaden said he's here to apologize on behalf of Candace and won't leave until Miss Flora forgives her."
"If he wants to wait, let him."
Amanda's face was expressionless.
The next morning, Flora didn't wake up until 10 a.m. After lunch, she prepared to leave.
"Ms. Flora..."
The villa's gate swung open, revealing Jaden outside, his face pale and body shivering from the cold. He had waited all night.
"You're quite the romantic, aren't you?" Flora quipped, raising an eyebrow.
"Flora, let's go."
Connor took her hand and walked forward without glancing back. Jaden, frozen and stiff, tried to follow, but Moss stepped in his way, handing him a document.
"Mr. Jaden, you might want to take a closer look at this."
Jaden glanced down, eyes widening at the bold letters...

In the square, two helicopters awaited. One was for Flora and Connor's return to Austenberg, and the other for Adrian and Kruz's journey to Empire Base. Adrian and Kruz looked like they were heading to their doom. "Flora, I got you some snacks for the trip," Ethan said, handing her a bag, then slowly passed another to Kruz. "Here you go, big guy."
"I don't like this stuff," Kruz grumbled but took it anyway.
Karter and Amanda offered some last-minute advice, and the group boarded the helicopter.
Outside the Falcone family villa, Jaden stood with the document for over an hour. Then, with heavy, stiff steps, he made his way to the law enforcement office. This time, no one stopped him, and he was able to see Candace easily.
Just one night had left Candace looking worn and haggard.
"Shu Yu, you're here to get me out, right? Say something!" Candace pinned all her hopes on Jaden, oblivious to the coldness in his eyes, a stark contrast to his past tenderness.
As he stayed silent, Candace felt a chill run through her.
She completely lost it. "How can you be so useless! Is it Nathan, that old man, stopping you from getting me out? That old geezer!"
"Shut up!" Jaden's hand trembled at his side, veins bulging as he fought to contain his anger.
"Why are you yelling at me? It's your own incompetence! Jaden, don't forget, I saved you. If I hadn't pulled you out of the river, you'd be dead! I'm your lifesaver!" Candace, her nerves shot, couldn't keep up the act. She let it all out, confident that Jaden, who had always spoiled her, wouldn't mind. Maybe he'd even console her. But this time, she was wrong.
Jaden just stared at her. "Is that so? You saved me?"
His voice was calm, but something simmered beneath the surface. Candace's expression shifted as she sensed his mood.
"What do you mean?" she asked, trying to sound confident but raising her voice. "Jaden! What do you mean!"
Jaden slapped the document against her face.
"What do I mean, Candace? Playing me for a fool, is that your idea of fun?"
"You saved me? When you found me, I was already on the shore. You took me home because of the jade pendant around my neck, right? You even pawned it, realized its value, and then pretended you saved me."
"From start to finish, you've been nothing but a vain, utterly hypocritical woman."
"Who told you that! It was I who saved you! How can you doubt me!"
Candace screamed. In her mind, even if she hadn't dragged Jaden from the water, she had taken him home and cared for him, which she considered a life-saving act.
