Three days later.
Noah sat inside his office, he had hoped that with Ari locked up in her room with no food and water, she would give up on her foolish rebellion. He would hear her apologies and things would go back to as they were, turned out he was mistaken.
His wife, who once held little to no determination, had suddenly turned as stubborn as a bull. She refused to admit that she was mistaken and hadn’t said a word of apology. Every time he went close to her room, he would hear her demanding that he open the door and let her go.
It was tiresome and annoying.
If he had known that just a small kiss would turn everything out of control, he would have never drank that wine and let loose. However, now that everything was done, he could only resolve the problem in front of him.
Noah pressed the bridge of his nose.
“Mister Nelson, Mister Jeremy Nelson is asking to see you,” Brandon’s voice echoed through the intercom sitting on his desk and Noah felt a surge of relief soar in his chest.
Finally, his uncle was back, and he would tell him what he needed to do in this situation.
“Let him in,” Noah said almost instantly. He couldn’t wait to meet his uncle, who had gone to Vence for a business meeting a month ago.
The door of his office was pushed open and a man in his forties stepped inside. His red hair was streaked with white strands, and his metal grey eyes were the same as Noah’s,
However, compared to Noah, who always had a blank and stoic look on his face, Jeremy Nelson looked much more cordial as he had a gentle smile on his face.
“Uncle!” Noah stood up from his chair as he walked over to where Jeremy was standing.© NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
“Noah, my boy!” Jeremy hugged Noah tightly as he patted him on the back. “You are looking thinner, are the matters of the company wearing you down?”
Noah smiled and shook his head. He said, “I am fine. Everything is fine at the company, did you come straight from the airport?”
Jeremy pulled away as he sighed heavily. He then took off his jacket and walked over to the couch inside Noah’s office before sitting down, “I did. You have no idea how hard it was for me to secure this deal from the Hamiltons. I was sure that I was going to be killed with so many people eyeing the land where we want to open our tourist resort.”
He placed the suitcase that he brought with him on the small table in front of him just as Noah sat down on the chair adjacent to the big couch.
While Jeremy opened his suitcase, Noah looked at him worriedly, “This is why I asked you to take bodyguards with you. Why did you not agree? What if something happened?”
“Oh please, I am a businessman and not a politician, what do I need bodyguards for? And you know I hate it when I am being monitored all the time,” Jeremy remarked as he pushed the lid of the suitcase. He then rummaged through the documents before pulling out the contract that he signed with the Hamilton company. “Here it is, keep it safely. If this contract goes missing, that b*stard Senior Hamilton will definitely refuse to own up.”
Noah took the contract from Jeremy and read through it, he was quite surprised to see that his uncle had secured a deal even better than he could have. He said to his uncle, “This is fantastic. With this, we will be the one making the most profits out of the resort.”
“I know right,” Jeremy puffed out his chest in mock pride before patting Noah’s knee. “That sly fox wanted to keep most of the shares for himself as he was the one cooperating with us, but I stuck to my word. Didn’t budge even the slightest, and got Senior Hamilton to sign it. Haha.”
Hearing the jolly laugh of his uncle, even Noah smiled. Compared to his father, he preferred his uncle. As his uncle was raised by his grandmother and was much friendlier than his father who grew up under his grandfather.
“By the way,” Jeremy glanced at him tentatively before questioning, “I heard something from Mia, she said that you have locked up Ari in the guest room?”
Noah stiffened. He did not think that his mother would tattle about this matter to his uncle, but given that his father was out of the country. She couldn’t discuss this matter with his grandpa, his mother could only look at Jeremy.
After all, Mia Nelson had a sharp tongue but the guts of a kitten. She must be worried that in case something happened to Ari, her family’s reputation would suffer.
“She made a mistake,” Noah did not mention Ari’s desire to divorce as he thought that he was not going to sign those papers ever in his life. Not unless he caught the murderer of his grandmother.
Jeremy did not probe any further and this was why Noah liked his uncle, he did not poke into his business like his mother, who often tried to keep everything in her control.
“Noah… I know that you are still upset about what happened years ago, but I am telling you that it was just an accident,” Jeremy began. His voice was soft as if he were afraid to say the wrong thing. He knew that his nephew was sensitive when it came to this matter and thus treaded cautiously.
However, Noah refused to listen. He shook his head and stubbornly said, “It wasn’t an accident, grandmother died because of Ari, if not for her then Grandma would still be alive.”
At the thought of his grandmother’s death, Noah hated Ari even more. Though everyone, including the police, said that his grandma’s death was a tragic accident and no one believed him, Noah knew that he was right.
On the other hand, Jeremy looked at his stubborn nephew helplessly.
He really could not understand why his nephew insisted on this messed up theory of his, but he couldn’t watch his nephew become something that he wasn’t, he softened his tone even more and said, “Alright, I understand. But Noah…if you punish Ari like this, you will only make her hate you more. Why don’t you go back and sit down with her and chat?”
“You two are husband and wife, no matter what. There is nothing that you can’t solve with a nice little conversation, okay?”
Noah pursed his lips. He never wanted to accept Ari as his wife because she was not only selfish but also the cause of his grandmother’s death.
However, he nodded when persuaded by his uncle.
“I will go and speak with her in the evening.”
