Dying in silence

Chapter 31 Bring him home tonight

An alarm shrilled in my head.

A game?.

For a minute, my heart stopped beating.

Darrel is playing with my feelings?

No way.!

I stared up at her in disbelieve. What’s she spluttering?..

“Look, Mia, I don’t really have time for this bullshit of..”

“Oh, I see. You still don’t believe me. You know, some people learn the hard way so I guess that’s the part you have chosen. Then, I guess I have nothing to say again, good luck with your charming delusional boyfie”she said sarcastically and walked away.

I stared at her fading figure and for a moment there, I did a quick flashback to the boy’s restroom.

Darrel said he has something to tell me when i made left for the restroom.

Could… could he wants to talk about this?, probably?.

“But, let see if he will later on tell you about the bet”Mia stopped and turned to me then smirk before finally moving away.

God.!

I stood there, speechless. What could I possibly say?.

I scoffed ruefully and ran my hand through my hair.

But, if it turns out Darrel was deceiving me.. I will.. I will…

Gosh.!

Mia is just saying gibberish.

Yeah, she’s just taking chances at me.

I walked laggardly back to the other restroom and found Darrel waiting for me at the door.

“Hey”he called.

I gazed at this guy infront of me and search in his eyes for evident that he might be deceiving me.

“What’s wrong?”he asked.

“Nothing”I shook my head slowly.

“So, about what I wanted to tell you”he smiled.

“Oh, that, yes?”I asked.

“Fontana, are you okay?”he asked again.

“Yeah, of course. Go on”I forced a smile.

Mia words had got me worried. I just hope it’s not the truth.

He looked reluctant.

Okay?..

“Before I say anything, promise you won’t get mad”he said softly.

Mad?..

“Why would I get mad”I sighed.

He nodded and Itched his nape.

“Remember what I told you in the cafeteria that day?, I said I have done something stupid?”he laughed bitterly.

“Yeah”I replied.

“So, I didn’t know you were the one at first, but, I and the other guys – my friends, you saw them the other day when you came to my house, right?”

“Hmm”

“We placed a bet on you but we’ve cut it off already, I just thought it necessary I tell you. I’m sorry”he expounded and whispered the last part.

It felt like I was slap right in my face.

What?

I stared at him in astonishment.

“So, it was true after all”I pushed back the tears and ran away.

“Fontana!.”he called after me.

“Please, I said I’m sorry, it wasn’t intentional, okay?”he shouted but i paid a deaf ear.

He’s sorry?.

##

I moved inside the dining room with my phone clutched in my hand.

I pulled the chair back and sat down and drop my phone on the table.

Samantha came to dish out my food and as she placed the food down infront of me, she asked.

“What’s wrong, Fontana. You don’t look so good”

I sighed and pick up the spoon the n started grinding the food with it.

“Fontana, you can talk to me, are you alright?”

“I’m fine”I chimed in.

“No, that alone,”she pointed to my face.”is enough proof to know that something is wrong, why won’t you talk to me”

Oh, my puffy eyes.

I have been crying ever since I came back from school so it made it pretty obvious I am not okay.

I slammed the spoon angrily on the table.

“That punk!.”I barked.

“You won’t believe that moron… that.. that bozo, was playing with my feelings?”I added, burning in rage.

“Who, your prince charming?”she asked.

Gosh.!

“When did I ever mentioned him as my prince charming to you?, infact, I’m done here, excuse me”I ranted and stood up then walked away angrily.

“I don’t mean on getting on your nerves, but, I’m really clueless about what you are trying to say”

“Then remain clueless!”I replied.

The next morning..

I brushed my hair in front of the lengthy mirror and stared at myself.

Geez.

My eyes look horrible.

The least I want is letting that stupid guy know I was tore apart with his words.

I trailed my eyes on the table and finally, it settled on the powder.

I walked towards it and apply some under my face with the flat foam and drop it back.

I walked back to the mirror and when I saw my eyes look less horrible, I grabbed my backpack and left the room.

I ascended the stairs and I met Dad on the way.

He was holding a tea cup and a white towel was hung around his neck.

“Good morning, Dad”I greeted.

“Morning princess”he replied and sipped from his steaming tea.

As made to walk past me, he suddenly stops.

“Fontana”he called.

“Yes?”I turned to him.

“About that guy..”he began.

“Huh?, which guy?”I asked.

“Don’t pretend. Invite him over tonight, I would love to have a conversation with him”he said.

My eyes moved away from him slowly.

“He was playing with my feelings”I blurted out.

“Pla.. ying?”dad asked.

“Yeah. Told me he and his guys placed a bet on me but they’ve already call it off already”I narrated.

“Oh”dad laughed.

Why is he laughing?

It isn’t funny.

“Okay, dear. Bet love is the best and just so you know, I got your mom in the same way. It’s only normal for highschool boys to place a bet on a girl. Talking about that now made me miss the old days”he expounded and smiled.

Woah;the hell.

“Just bring him home tonight, okay?”he said and walks off.
