Don’t Fall for the Billionaire Lover

Chapter 977

Connor knew right away something was off. At first, he thought Maddie was in some serious trouble. As a friend, he was just there to support her. But it was becoming clear that wasn't it at all.

He grabbed Maddie's arm, his voice urgent. "Chloe's here too, Maddie. Spill the beans. What's really going on?"

Connor had a gut feeling, the kind you can't shake. Something had happened to Chloe, and Grant was mixed up in it. Maddie had been doing some digging, asking the right questions, and pieced things together.

"I'm not entirely sure," she admitted. "Mr. Grant got himself a new chopper and took Ms. Chloe on a test flight. Not long after they took off, the helicopter went down."

Maddie was lying through her teeth. But she had no choice. Where on earth was Chloe? If Chloe was okay, Maddie's story would fall apart soon enough. But she couldn't think about that now. If Chloe came back unhurt, Maddie could still work her magic to hypnotize her and plant this memory. But to do that, she had to find Chloe before Connor did.

She couldn't wrap her head around Grant's role in all this. I mean, how did a guy who once flew fighter jets manage to crash a tiny helicopter? Was it just bad luck?

Connor was losing it. Chloe was in that chopper and went down with it. He raced to the crash site, only to find the helicopter empty. The fire department and hospital folks mentioned seeing just one person there. Witnesses said the same— only one person was in the helicopter when they arrived. And since the park was a wild botanical garden, there were no cameras around to catch anything. Chloe had vanished as if into thin air.

As night crept in, Connor had been searching high and low all day. The Shaw family was now in the loop about Chloe's accident and had rallied the troops to look for her. Their house was lit up like a Christmas tree. They had even brought the child back from the hospital to the Shaw home, cradled in Cassie's arms. Tonight, little Tim, usually so calm and quiet, was in tears, crying his heart out.noveldrama

Everyone was on edge. Kash tried to calm the room, "Let's not jump to conclusions. No news might be good news. Chloe must've gotten out of the helicopter."

Connor was deep in thought, sitting silently on the couch. His mind was a whirlwind of questions. He couldn't shake the feeling that things weren't as simple as they seemed. If Chloe and Grant were just on a test flight, even if the worst happened. Chloe wouldn't have just left her friend behind if she was awake. There had to be more to this story.

Isaac was beating himself up, "This is on me. I should've stayed with Chloe at the hospital."

Connor didn't say a word. He just got up and left the Shaw family residence. Cassie asked, "Where's he off to?"

Winston chimed in, "Probably heading to the hospital to check on Grant. Isaac, let's tag along."

Winston and Isaac made their way to the hospital too. Grant was in bad shape, undergoing surgery that dragged on for six hours. Six broken ribs, a piece of metal through his body, and a shattered thigh. They managed to keep him alive, but he was in a deep coma in the ICU. The doctors said it was a miracle he even made it to the hospital. His life was hanging by a thread, with his organs taking a serious beating, risking failure at any moment.

Connor stood outside the ICU for what felt like forever. Winston tried to reassure

him, "There's no point waiting around. He's not waking up anytime soon."

Winston was also scratching his head over this. "We checked the city's CCTV and found something fishy. The cameras around the maternity retreat center got messed up, so we couldn't track where Chloe went after leaving the helicopter."
