Chapter 960
The room fell into a momentary hush. Kash's eyes darted between the two figures before him, brows furrowed, fingers twitching slightly with tension. Was there some backstory here? Chloe, too, was caught up in the scene, her curiosity piqued. She sensed a flicker of romantic tension-an instinct honed by her woman's intuition-but mostly she looked like someone eager for the latest gossip.
The woman before them was none other than the notorious Miss Amelia, a name Kash and Teddy often mentioned. Rumors of a faked death or a secret double life swirled around her-scandalous stuff. What baffled everyone was that Amelia was supposedly Teddy's great love. So why was she exchanging flirtatious banter with Connor now?
Connor's brow knotted slightly as he threw a glance at Chloe. No trace of jealousy there—just the face of someone enjoying the drama unfold, completely unfazed.
Connor cleared his throat and said, "Of course, I'm upset too. I've always considered you a key business ally and a friend." At his words, Maddie's expression turned flat.
Without missing a beat, Maddie turned away, her voice tinged with indifference, "That's exactly why I haven't come back to you all. I have feelings for you, and I've been loyal, but you can't give me a future. Meanwhile, Teddy's constant meddling leaves me with no reason to return. Claire's scheme was the perfect opportunity to let Maddie vanish. Isn't it perfect?"
Connor's gaze was fixed on her, his brow furrowing even deeper. For a split second, it felt like she was wrapped in layers of secrets. What she said made sense on the surface but felt off. They'd built a business intelligence network together, forged a bond of trust and camaraderie over the years. Her supposed death had solidified that bond, but now, with her standing there alive, it felt almost like a cruel twist.
After a long pause, Connor finally spoke, "Teddy hasn't let go of your memory since the day you 'died.' Even if you don't have feelings for him, you owe him an explanation. Leaving him to wallow in painful memories isn't fair."
Maddie replied, "Now that I'm back, I'll find a way to set things straight with him.”
Connor had a swarm of questions buzzing in his head, but he knew this wasn't something to untangle in one sitting. So, wrapping an arm around Chloe, he said, "It's getting late. We should head out."
Grant didn't make any move to stop them. Once they were gone, Maddie sighed, "They came in at the worst time. I was only halfway through the hypnosis. I erased part of the memory but didn't get to implant any new ones."
Grant remained unfazed, "No worries, we'll have other chances." He asked, "She won't suddenly remember, will she?"
The issue with his 'Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles' technique was itsnoveldrama
unpredictability. Unless all memories were wiped, partial memory loss meant he
couldn't control when or if memories might return.
Maddie replied confidently, "She'll only remember if she sees my hypnosis clock again. It's like I've set a memory switch. As long as don't flick it, that part of her memory stays locked away."
"My hypnosis and your Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles work hand in hand. I can make her forget a segment permanently, but not everything, while you can't deal with fragments but can ensure complete amnesia."
She turned to Grant, "So what's your plan? Use the Ghost Gate Thirteen Needles
on the day she gives birth to erase all her memories and whisk her away quietly?"
Maddie added, "With Connor around, if Chloe disappeared, he'd never stop looking. And he'd likely point fingers at either of us first."
What do you think?
