Suicidal thoughts
Chapter 66 Suicidal Thoughts
NINA’S HOME, NEW YORK. Nina’s nose was basking in the perfume Xander had on before she snapped back to reality and pushed him away from her gently. She was still wearing her clothes and had just returned from work. Nina thought she was dreaming when she felt his comforting arms wrap around her. The same feeling she got when they dated in college still enveloped her. “What is going on?” She asked while looking back and forth between him and the bag in his hand. Xander pushed past her gently and shut the door before ushering himself into the couch. “Well, first things first. It would help if you welcomed me. I will be your new roommate starting from now.” Nina frowned at him. “What do you mean by that?” “It’s the same thing it means in general, Nina. Now sit; we need to talk.” But she remained standing. “Nina, please.” He urged. She finally settled stiffly on the couch. “Why are you here?” Nina asked, avoiding his eyes. Xander inhaled deeply. “So, about the-” “It was a mistake!” She bellowed. “Do not mind me. My hormones take charge of my body when I do not expect it. That would never happen again.” Amusement replaced his facial features. Even though the kiss wasn’t the topic he wanted to discuss, he chose to play along. “Well, if that is what it seems to you-” “That is what it is.” She cut him short. “Aren’t we all entitled to our opinions, Nina? It’s a mistake for you, but that kiss has made my day for the past few days. I can assure you that I do not have any ounce of regret.” “Xander.” Nina sounded helpless. Xander held her gaze. “Please, Nina. Don’t yank my feelings out of my hands because it doesn’t suit you, even though you call this a mistake. I will make sure the next one won’t be a mistake.” Nina’s heart raced at his admission. She felt lost for a few seconds, wishing he had not said that. Her arm went around her belly protectively. “I don’t know where you got that idea from, but it never happens again.” “It’s good to know we have different resolves. I am not giving up on mine, so you know. So, let’s stop talking about that and move on. I just learned today that your department budget got short. Why didn’t you report it?” She smacked her lips. “I didn’t think it was that important. Especially since you weren’t around, and I thought you were out to ruin me.” He shook his head. “I will pretend not to hear all of that. I am sorry for all the trouble the mother company caused you and your team. Everyone on your team will get compensation, and I will put that into work by tomorrow.” “Wow! Thank you, boss.” She teased. “So, are you on your way somewhere? What’s with the bag?” “I believe you didn’t go deaf when I spoke the other time. It will be my house for the time being.” Her eyes rounded like saucers like he was stating his mission. “Are you doing this because it is the company’s house?” “No, that is not it. Carla told me she would be away for a while and that you are refusing help. So I have decided to be the help. Since you are in dire need of it.” Nina blinked rapidly, trying to garner her thoughts. “You can’t stay. Tania will be here soon; I do not want her to misunderstand whatever she sees. I will be fine.” Xander shifted to the edge of the couch and stared intensely at her. “Nina? I will expect you to know better than to lie to me. Why are you trying too hard? Tania is currently on a field trip, and you know it. All I want to do is make sure you are okay. I won’t even stand in your way. It won’t kill you to take my help. Stop being such a hard nut.” “Still, it doesn’t make sense that you will stay with me.” “What part of this world we live in actually makes any sense? Please, Nina. Could you spare me the sermons? I will be here with you until you put to bed. You can then discard me whenever you wish. For now, I will be at your service. Where is my room?” He asked, standing up with determination on his face. She stood up gently with a hand under her belly for support. “I don’t want to be a burden, Xander. Do you have to do this?” “Tell me something, Nina? Am I complaining? Didn’t I drive my car down here myself? From now on, you won’t be driving yourself to work. I will take you to the office and bring you back home. When you are a month away from your delivery date, you promise to stop working and remain home. I will also stay back with you.” “No, I can’t let you do that.” “If you refuse any of my instructions, I will have to do it the forcefully way. You want that?” He asked, looking very serious. Nina’s smile faded at the seriousness on his face. “You mean it?” “I didn’t stutter, did I?” “Alright then. You have made up your mind. You can sleep in the room next to Carla’s. What would you like to eat?” “Whatever it is you are craving for.” At his response, Nina suddenly felt like eating Chinese, and she didn’t hold back from expressing herself. “Chinese?” Xander chuckled, noticing her reluctance. “And Chinese it is. I will make the order. Let me drop my bag and come back to massage your feet. No side intentions.” He quickly added when she gave him a suspicious look. Nina laughed shyly. “Thank you, Xander. I don’t know how to repay you for everything you have done, but I will.” “You don’t need to find a way of paying back. All you have to do is be beside me, and I will be just fine.” He said with a smile as he headed to the room.NôvelDrama.Org owns this.
