Forty One
My head was pounding. Everything felt like a nightmare. Vincent, that crazy guy, wanted me. Bad. Brock and Logan were trying to figure out what to do, their faces all serious. It was like we were in a movie, except without the popcorn.
Logan was the first to speak. “We need a plan,” he said, his voice low and serious. “Vincent won’t stop until he gets what he wants.”
Brock, my knight in shining armor, jumped in. “Amelia needs to be safe. I’m her bodyguard, 24/7.” My heart melted a little. He looked at me with those intense eyes of his, and I felt safe for a second.
Logan nodded. “Agreed. We double the patrols. No one gets in or out without being checked. I’ll station more werewolf soldiers at the borders. We need eyes everywhere.”
Brock’s gaze never left mine. “I’ll be her personal guard. Wherever she goes, I go.”
I couldn’t help the swell of affection I felt for him. “Thank you, Brock. I feel safer already.”
Logan’s expression softened slightly. “It’s settled then. Brock, you’ll be with Amelia at all times. We’ll rotate the guards and make sure no one gets complacent. This isn’t just about defending our land-it’s about survival.”
After the meeting, Brock insisted on walking me home. The night was quiet, the only sounds the occasional rustle of leaves and the distant call of night birds. Brock’s presence beside me was a comforting constant amidst the chaos.
“Thank you for walking me home,” I said softly as we reached my door. “And for everything else.”
Brock smiled, a rare softness in his eyes. “Always, Amelia. I’ll protect you with everything I have.”
The intensity of his words struck me, and before I knew it, I was leaning in, my heart pounding. “Brock, I…”
He didn’t let me finish. His hands cupped my face, and his lips met mine in a kiss that took my breath away. The world seemed to fall away, leaving just the two of us in a moment of pure connection. I kissed him back, wrapping my arms around his neck.
When we finally pulled apart, we were both breathless. “I’ve wanted to do that for so long today ,” he whispered.
“Me too,” I admitted. “I can’t get enough of you Brock.”
Brock’s smile widened. “You don’t have to say anything. Just be with me.”
“Will you spend the night with me” I asked and Brock looked around and sighed, his green eyes looked like miniature storms.
“I can’t” he said and I smiled at him. I shot him a sultry look.
“I am wet already you know that” I said and Brock eyes flared up. His chest heaved as he struggled to hold himself in check.
“Damn you Amelia, you vixen” he growled and looked away.
“I want it so bad, don’t you” I said and Brock stared back at me.
“You are evil, you know that huh?” He asked and I grinned as he lifted me into his arms and stepped inside.
“I know” I said and sighed as he captured my mouth in his.
I woke up the next morning to find Brock’s side of the bed empty. I sighed, didn’t he ever rest, why did he always had to put duty before what he wanted first. A note on the bed caught my attention and I opened and read it: “You snore Vixen” it read and I smiled. Typical of Brock to always give me a snide compliment.

“Okay, let’s break this down,” Logan said, spreading a map out on the table. “Vincent’s gonna try and hit us where it hurts. We gotta be smarter than him.”
Brock leaned forward, his eyes scanning the map. “The south is our weak spot. We need more guards there, and we should switch them out often.”
I nodded, trying to picture it all. “And we can’t forget about the village. If he can’t get to us, he might go after them to lure us out.”
Logan’s face turned serious. “You’re right. More patrols there too. Everyone needs to be on high alert.”
We spent the next few hours going over every little detail. It was like putting together a giant puzzle, except the pieces were people and danger. By the time we were done, the sun was way up, and we all looked like zombies.
Logan stood up, stretching. “Alright, we’ve done all we can for now. We need to stay sharp, everyone. No one goes anywhere alone. Brock, you’re with Amelia, no exceptions.”
Brock nodded, giving me a reassuring look.
As we walked out of the war room, Brock grabbed my hand. “Let’s get some air, huh? We need a break from all this.”
We found a quiet spot by the meadow. The grass was soft, and the sun felt good on my skin. It was weird how peaceful it was here, compared to the chaos inside.
Brock sat down and pulled me close. “We’re gonna get through this, you know,” he said, his voice steady.
I leaned my head on his shoulder. “I hope so. With you by my side, I feel like I can handle anything.”
We sat there for a while, just enjoying the quiet. It was like a tiny moment of peace in the middle of a storm.
“You left early” I observed and Brock sighed, he stroked my blond hair softly.
“You know I had to” he said and I shook my head.
“Duty huh?” I said bitterly, “I hate that you have to be the one doing all the work. I love you and I want you to be with me, not spending time running around the pack”
“You are Logan’s mate, we are keeping this a secret how else can I convince am not fucking his mate” he said and I rose to stare at him.
“He had sex with Sage too. Plus she told him about us” I said and Brock’s eyes widened, he stared at me in fear.
“What did he say?” He asked and I shrugged.
“Nothing, but I guess one day. He’ll let you know then I’ll see if I am worth fighting for” I said and stormed away
