Chapter 18 Jokes
Hearing Gavin's teasing, I smiled bitterly and said, "Yes, what do I have? I only have myself."
Gavin sensed that there was something wrong with my tone, so he immediately comfort me. "Although
you having nothing right now, you have to know that you still have yourself! As long as you are alive
and healthy, there is nothing to worry about."
I nodded and thought for a moment. Then I said half jokingly, "How about I selling myself to you?"
Gavin smiled and said, "Sell yourself to me? What can you do? I never do a losing bargain ."
I glanced down at my ill-fitting outfit, which looked ugly compared to Gavin's premium. I gritted my
teeth. "I can work for you," I said. "I think I am pretty good at working."
I waited for a while but Gavin was stil in silence, I knew immediately that this was the best answer for
me.
Gavin was a rich man, but he was not stupid. It was all right to give a million to an insignificant person.
After all, with his skills, he could earn it right back. But hiring an unqualified employee would be a big
loss for him.
I smiled silently and leaned my head against the window. I looked out at the cityscape whizzing by and
wondered where my future lay.
Meeting a traffic light, Gavin stopped slowly and said suddenly, "Darcey..."
His voice sounded hesitant and halting, and he sheepishly called me by name.
I was a little flattered. After all, he had never called me liked this before. I turned my head and
answered him, "What?"
Gavin looked into my eyes. I saw that there were still a minute for the change of traffic lights at the
junction. It did not matter, so I looked at him. He said, "Darcey, although our meeting doesn't sound
very serious, I still want to say that it's very nice to meet you."
I smiled and didn't know what he was going to say. So I said, "Well, it's the same for me. Mr. Stone Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
helped me so much, and I feel sorry for him."
"Darcey," said Gavin. "Do you think I like you?"
I merely smiled and said nothing. But when I looked up and saw that the traffic light had changed, I
patted him on the arm and said, "It's green. Let's go."
Gavin turned around and focused on driving, not saying a word. I was silent for a long time before I
suddenly realized what he meant.
All of a sudden, my mind exploded, but I didn't dare to look up at Gavin, nor did I dare to ask him. I
even breathed carefully.
In this way, he didn't say a word until he arrived my apartment.
I got off the car and said goodbye to him before hurrying upstairs. He did not look back and drove away
directly.
In the dark corridor, I thought I had misheard. Or maybe Gavin was just making an innocent joke, but I
was touched. Gavin would laugh at me again if he knew I was reacting that way.
But I couldn't be blamed. Gavin was so excellent that every woman would be into him. I didn't know
much about him, but as far as I knew, he was indeed a man every woman desired."
But I could not mess with a man like that. Before I entered the house, I tried as best I could to shake
my head. I could not take this unrealistic fantasy home with me.
