CHAPTER 6
She took another deep breath when they entered the house. She couldn’t help but look around with amazement in her eyes. The luxuries enjoyed by him and his brother were obvious.
“Have you seen my brother?” Red asked the helper who greeted them.
“Good evening, Sir, Ma’am. Sir Clayton is already in the dining room waiting for you,” said the elderly maid politely.
“Thank you, Nana Mildred,” the smiling man replied.
Smiling, she nodded to the old woman. She was the one who automatically held her boyfriend’s arm especially as they approached the dining room. He turned to her and held her hand on his arm.
“Chill,” he laughed softly when he said that.
She saw that a lot of food was ready on the table. There is a man standing with his back turned. He was wearing a black coat and black slacks. Just looking at his back, she already feels intimidated.
“Brother,” Red called to him.
The man slowly turned around to look at them. Their eyes met.
Why did her chest suddenly throb? She was just nervous, her mind said.
Red’s brother also stared at her for a long time. Eventually, his forehead suddenly wrinkled as if angry. She couldn’t escape the sight of his gaze looking at her whole body from head to toe. As he did so the frown on his forehead deepened even more.
She sighed. Red’s brother doesn’t seem to like her. Her boyfriend also said that he already introduced three of his girlfriends to his brother. His brother did not like all of those three. He said that they were either too liberated or even a social climber. The last girlfriend he introduced even seduced his older brother.
Red didn’t seem to notice the disgust on his brother’s face because she can still the wide smile on her boyfriend’s face.
“Meet Samantha, bro. She’s my girlfriend. Sam, meet my brother, Clayton,” he introduced them to each other.
The man did not leave his position and remained standing there while staring at her without a smile on his lips.
She let go of Red’s arm and hesitated to approach Red’s brother to shake his hand.
“G-good evening. Nice to meet you at last,” she said politely and reached out her hand.
He didn’t reach out a hand and ignored her hand completely.
“You may sit down now so we can eat,” his voice was more intimidating.
Embarrassed she lowered her hand and simply touched the skirt she was wearing. Smiling, Red came up next to her and held her arm to sit down. She sat next to Red’s chair while his brother sat at the end of the table.
She averted her eyes from the man because his gaze seemed to make her uncomfortable. Red took care of her and he was the one putting food on her plate.
“Let me do it,” she shyly interrupted her boyfriend.
“Oh, let me. I’ll be happy to serve you, Nap,” Red’s eyes teased her again.
“So, how did your love story begin?”
She stopped eating and suddenly looked at Red as if nervous. The man’s voice was scary. Actually, he has a great voice. It is so masculine but it seems like anyone who hears it will be scared.
Red smiled at her and held out her hand that was on the table.
“Inside the mall, bro. She just caught my attention right away,” Red didn’t take his eyes off her.
She also smiled at her boyfriend but that smile faded when she met the gaze of Red’s brother. He was drinking from a glass while looking at her. Unconsciously, she withdrew the hand that Red was holding.
“So are you still a student, Sam? If you’re working already then what’s your work?” He is like an interviewer to someone who is applying for a job.
“A-ahm, I’m working. I-I’m working online,” her voice seemed to be shaking.
“What kind of online work?” was immediately followed by that question.
She swallowed hard. She can’t think straight.
“Well?” he was waiting for her answer.
“I believe she’s doing online works for a client like a virtual assistant. Right, Nap?” it was Red who answered for her.
She just nodded even though she didn’t know what kind of work he just mentioned.
“Nap, don’t be nervous, okay? My brother just wants to know you more,” Red whispered to her.
She just smiled at her boyfriend, trying to calm herself.
“Online works for a client, huh? Interesting. I believe you are just waiting for your client’s demands and you’ll just do it with no second thoughts, right?” He said it like he wanted to tell her something else.
“R-right,” though seemingly confused she just agreed as well.
She continued to eat even though she seemed to suddenly lose her appetite. Red’s brother didn’t say a word, which she was thankful for.
Eventually, he wiped his mouth with a table napkin.
“Please excuse me and just enjoy your meal. I have a scheduled call tonight. Nice meeting you, Samantha. Red, we’ll talk later,” he stood up while saying that and just looked at her for a moment before leaving the dining room.
Only then did she seem to breathe a sigh of relief when the man left.
“Clayton can really make anyone feel uncomfortable when he wants to,” Red said jokingly when his brother was gone.
She did not utter a word.
“Are you okay?” Red’s question seemed worried.
“Y-yeah.” She replied shortly and drank some water.
She also did not eat well so she stopped eating. After dinner, Red took her around their big house. They also went to the back where the huge swimming pool was.
In fact, she would love to go home already. They stayed a bit longer at their house first. They were sitting in a chair by the side of the swimming pool when his phone rang.Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
“Mike!” Red replied cheerfully to the caller on the other line.
He motioned his hand as if excusing himself so he can answer the phone. She nodded at him and then he left in front of her.
She stared at the clear water in the pool. She was surprised as someone suddenly spoke behind her.
“How long have you known my brother?”
Her heart was pounding again when she heard the man’s voice. She didn’t know if it was because of fear. She slowly turned around. She saw Red’s brother standing there with his hands inside the pockets of the slacks he was wearing.
“A-almost two months,” her voice didn’t seem to want to come out.
“Two months? Wow! How many days did he court you? Or was there any courtship at all?” the man’s tone seemed to be sarcastic.
