Chapter 271
Chapter 271
Kylie withdrew her gaze and flashed an apologetic look at Zachary.
Sorry, Zachary Though I want to be with Jerome, I can’t be too hasty. I’m worried that he’ll resent me.”
“I supported you when you said you wanted to join Miller Group upon your return. You can’t even win him over, yet you’re asking me to fund your project?” Zachary was livid.
“I’m really sorry, Zachary. It’s my fault for being incompetent. I’m really thankful for your support in our relationship. I shouldn’t have asked you to return over such trifles, but I’ve exhausted other options.
“As you can see, Jerome has begun to develop feelings for Mikayla. I’ve done everything I can, but I still
can’t separate them.
“My relative is in charge of the project, and our sabotage will only work once he succeeds. My father’s company is barely flourishing despite your and Jerome’s support, so it’s impossible for us to acquire that much capital. That’s why I’m asking for your help, Zachary.”
Zachary said coldly, “I’ll fund the project, and I don’t give a damn about your plans. But you’ll have to prove yourself by plunging Jerome into deep waters.”
“I’ll try my best.” Kylie was slightly perplexed. “Zachary, Jerome’s your son, though. Why are you targeting
him?”
Zachary grumbled, “Mind your own business! You don’t have to know about the rest.”
Kylie dropped her gaze, perceptive enough to remain silent. A cold glint flickered in her eyes, but it went
unnoticed.
Mikayla found Wanda. Judging by how weary she looked, Mikaya figured she must’ve missed her nap. Molly was massaging her shoulders.
“Grandma!” Mikayla called out to b
sweetly.
“Kay, you’re here!” Wanda extended her hand to Mikayla. “Come here.”
“Happy birthday, Grandma! I wish you abundant happiness, good health; and eternal youth!” Mikayla said as she approached Wanda.
“You’re such a dear.” Wanda patted her hand. Looking concerned, she asked, “Why did you suddenly get.
sick last night? You didn’t even make it to Edu
Mikayla took over Molly’s job and let her rest instead.
Massaging Wanda’s shoulders, she replied, “Yeah, I had an upset stomach during our journey, so we went to the hospital instead.”
She trod carefully in their conversation, mindful of Jerome’s reminder. “I’m perfectly fine now after a night’s rest.”
“Glad to hear that. You have no idea how anxious Jerome looked last night when he went out. Even I was flabbergasted. I thought something bad happened to you,” Wanda said.
Mikayla owed Jerome a favor last night. If he hadn’t acted, not only would she have gotten injured, but her explicit videos would also be circulating the internet now. She wouldn’t even have the opportunity to engage in this peaceful conversation with Wanda.
“Kay, it’s clear that he cares about you. Are you really not going to give him another chance?” Wanda didn’t want to let this opportunity slip for Jerome’s sake.
Mikayla shook her head firmly. “Grandma, you can’t compare apples with oranges. The fact that he helped me out last night doesn’t change my decision. I’ll start the divorce proceedings with him tomorrow.”
Wanda wasn’t surprised. She shook her head and said sullenly, “Fine, I won’t bring it up anymore.”
She squeezed Mikayla’s hand and said, “You just came back from the hospital. Don’t tire yourself and get
some rest.” Text © by N0ve/lDrama.Org.
“It’s fine, Grandma. I’m not tired.” Mikayla wanted to spend more time with her, knowing that she wouldn’t be Wanda’s granddaughter–in–law much longer.
She continued massaging Wanda’s shoulders and was suddenly reminded of something.
“Grandma, Uncle Stephen called me this afternoon. Grandpa has yet to recover, and he’s quite worn out as well, so he won’t be able to make it to your banquet. Uncle Stephen and his family will be coming later,
though.”
“We’re a family, so it’s not a big deal. Well, he’s getting on in years, so it must be extremely tiring for him to go through all that. My birthday party isn’t all that serious–it’s merely a gathering.
“Even I can’t handle the clamor, so here I am, shying away from the celebration.”
“Grandma.”
Jerome walked in in the middle of their conversation. He drew near to Mikayla when he saw her massaging Wanda’s shoulders. He took her wrist and scrutinized it.
“Get some rest. I’ll do it,” he said calmly.
