“What are you curious about?” the Alpha’s voice growled lowly, thick with authority and dominance.
“I’m just wondering what kind of woman is capable of capturing your heart,” Nelly dared to voice her curiosity.
The Alpha’s eyes narrowed, his gaze piercing into her very soul. “Why would you be curious about her?” he questioned, his voice laced with warning.
“I don’t think it’s strange for a woman you had abandoned to be curious about this. Don’t you think so?” Nelly retorted, her tone strong and defiant.
The Alpha’s primal instincts bristled at the mention of “abandoned.” Though she spoke casually, the word carried a weight that offended him deeply.
“Nelly, you don’t have to be so harsh. I did not abandon you,” the Alpha defended himself, his tone holding a mix of frustration and vulnerability.
“Am I wrong?” Nelly challenged, her voice laden with accusation.
“We only got married because of Grandpa. There were no feelings of love between us, so our divorce was the best decision for both of us,” the Alpha explained, his words tinged with a hint of regret.
Nelly’s disappointment seeped into her eyes, but she quickly gathered her expression, hiding it away. She nodded, masking her hurt. “That… makes sense.”
Alpha Kilian couldn’t help but feel a pang of guilt, as if he had wounded her deeply.
“Why? Did you have feelings for me?” he found himself asking, unable to suppress his curiosity.
The corner of Nelly’s lips curled into a bitter smirk. “I must be crazy if I had feelings for you.”
Her words struck him sharply, like a bite to his pride, and yet, he couldn’t help but find them unpleasant to his ears.
Looking at her sternly, the Alpha warned, “It’s not entirely impossible for you to turn crazy, Nelly. It would be best if you stopped being curious about my affairs before things spiral out of control.”
Nelly’s defiance hardened, her gaze challenging. “Don’t worry. I wasn’t planning on falling for the same trap twice.”
Alpha Kilian found himself speechless, caught off guard by her unwavering resilience.
Would it hurt for her to refrain from saying unnecessary things?
Knowing that the Alpha was on the verge of losing control, Nelly quickly changed the topic. “All right, I’m tired. I’m going to rest. You may leave now.”
With that, she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.
It was a good thing that she reacted fast enough. Who knew what the Alpha would do if she were to provoke him any further?
Finally, the air in the room quieted. Alpha Kilian glanced at Nelly’s sleeping form, his gaze filled with an unreadable mix of emotions. Her pale face flushed and covered in sweat, she still looked unrealistically beautiful.
A suspicion grew within him as he wondered how different she had become, yet remained unchanged in appearance throughout the years.
Could there be something wrong with my eyes?
Alpha Kilian’s lips contorted into a snarl as he pondered.
Listening to Nelly’s steady breathing, he stood up and gently covered her with a blanket before leaving the room quietly.
In the corridor, Alpha Kilian dialed Fabian’s number.
“Alpha Morris, how can I help you?” Fabian answered cautiously.
After a moment of silence, Alpha Kilian finally spoke up. “Do you have Dave’s information in your hands?”
“H-How did you know?” Fabian stammered in surprise.
“Name a price. I want you to hand over the information to the police tonight,” Alpha Kilian instructed, his voice dripping with authority.
Fabian realized things were getting out of hand. “Did he do something to offend you?”
“I just think that a person like him should be taught a lesson.” Though his tone was nonchalant, Fabian knew this was serious.
“Initially, I only collected information about him because I did not like him. Never would I have expected it to come in handy. Then I shall not stand on ceremony, Alpha Morris! I’ll make sure justice is served!” Fabian proclaimed with a touch of excitement. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
“Okay.”
“Just transfer whatever amount you think the information is worth to me.” Fabian chuckled.
However, Alpha Kilian did not respond. Instead, he sent a text message to Fabian, the information and instructions for his task.
When Fabian saw the message, his eyes lit up. “Alpha Morris, have a good rest. Rest assured that I shall handle this issue perfectly. Satisfaction is guaranteed!” Fabian exclaimed with excitement.
“I’ve just sent you an address. Bring a fresh set of clothes to me when you come to pick me up.”
“What are you doing in a hospital? Are you hurt?” Fabian questioned.
“I’m not hurt. Just do as I instructed,” Alpha Kilian replied firmly.
Without questioning further, Fabian responded, “Got it!”
After ending the call, Alpha Kilian glanced at the ward before turning back and walking inside.
Nelly was still sound asleep.
Later that night, Nelly’s fever gradually subsided, and she no longer broke out in cold sweat. The effects of the medication began to take effect.
Alpha Kilian made sure her condition was stable before sitting on the couch beside her bed and drifting off to sleep.
The following day, the soft rays of sunlight streamed through the window, prompting Nelly to wake up. She surveyed her surroundings, realizing that she was no longer hooked up to any machines. Her body felt lighter, and she was feeling much better.
As she was about to leave the bed, Nelly noticed someone sleeping on the nearby couch. When she recognized the man as Alpha Kilian, she was momentarily stunned.
Had he not returned home last night and spent the night here?
Despite it being a fact, she couldn’t believe her eyes.
This was something he would have never done when they were married in the past.
Images of him coming to her rescue and protecting her last night flooded her mind. Undeniably, Nelly felt a twinge of delight at the sight of Alpha Kilian.
At the very least, she no longer despised him as much as before.
Lost in her thoughts, Nelly was suddenly interrupted by the ringing of her phone.
The sound jolted her back to reality, and it seemed to have awakened Alpha Kilian as well. He sat up, his gaze fixated on her.
Nelly hastily searched for her phone, realizing it was still ringing somewhere.
Alpha Kilian shot her a curious look before reaching for the phone and handing it to her.
Unfortunately, he saw the name on the caller ID when he picked up her phone.
Caller ID: Big Darling.
The name felt like a punch to the gut.
Nelly, unsure of how to handle the situation with him by her side, hesitated before deciding to hang up the call.
“Aren’t you going to take the call?” Alpha Kilian asked, his eyebrow raised. The gentle expression he had shown earlier now turned stern.
“It’s not convenient…” Nelly tried to come up with an excuse, but her words fell short.
“Why would it be inconvenient? Are you afraid for him to know that I’ve spent the night here with you?” Alpha Kilian pressed, his voice dripping with suspicion and possessiveness.
