Divorcing 40
Chapter 40: The Frame-Up
"Hey, you alright?"
Quinn's heart ached as he noticed Chloe's slightly scraped heels.
"No worries. I'm used to it."
This wasn't Chloe's first rodeo in high heels. Back when she was a flight attendant for Paramount Airlines, she practically lived in them, hustling up and down the plane every day. Sometimes, even when the shoes don't fit, she keeps going.
Chloe had definitely gotten used to it.
Quinn, worried she might not handle it, lent her an arm to lean on. This way, she could relax a bit.
They were walking so slowly that by the time Michael and Lucy stopped in front of them, Chloe hadn't even noticed.
"Chloe, do I need to remind you again? You're still not divorced."Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
Michael's face was a stormy sea.
Chloe didn't say a word. She just glanced at Lucy standing next to him and couldn't help but feel a pang of irony.
Chapter 40: The Frame-Up
"Are you talking to me? Did you even bother to tell me you'd be coming here with another woman?"
Her lone d
with sarcasm. She shot Lucy another glance,
making her point crystal clear.
"Chloe, Michael and I are..."
"You guys are here to talk business, right? You always say that. Aren't you tired of it?"
Lucy was stunned by her words, left speechless.
"If you guys have nothing else to discuss, the banquet's about to start. I'll leave you to it."
"After all, if we cause a scene here, it's gonna be super awkward for everyone."
Chloe gave Quinn a light tap on the arm, signaling him to help
her walk.
Michael stood there, a dark expression on his face.
After the charity gala, the donated items will be auctioned off, and the seating arrangements are already set.
Since no one knew Chloe was Michael's wife, they naturally weren't seated together.
In a rare twist of fate, Cathy's seat was right next to Chloe's.
Chapter 40: The Frame-Up
Chloe wasn't into the auction. Missing the doctor today left her feeling kinda bored.
After the auction, everyone headed back to the banquet hall. Chloe's feet were hurting. Cathy sneered, "If your feet hurt so much, why don't you have your date carry you? That'll save you some energy."
Chloe stayed silent, walking alone.
In the banquet hall, a long rectangular table stood adorned with a pyramid of tall wine glasses.
Chloe barely reached the table when Cathy started nagging again.
"If you're feeling wobbly, just lean on the table for a bit. No one's gonna notice."
Cathy tried to start a conversation twice. Chloe ignored her the first time, but by the second time, she couldn't stand it anymore.
"Cathy, if you're really that dumb, maybe the Shawn family should buy you some brain supplements."
This rectangular table is the go-to for banquets. It looks good but isn't really stable.
A slight nudge and it might collapse.
Right now, Chloe stood facing the wine glasses.
Chapter 40: The Frame-Up
So, she knew exactly what Cathy was up to.
Chloe thought, "She's so dumb. Trying to frame me like that? What a joke."
Is all the Shawn family's brains packed into Michael alone?
Cathy's face turned pale with anger. "I was just trying to help you. You don't have to accept it, but why insult me?"
Chloe crossed her arms and let out a cold laugh. "My foot hurts, I'm not crippled. You want me to lean on the table to rest? How about you try it first? I'm not that smart, show me how it's done."
"You!"
Chloe couldn't help it; she rolled her eyes.
