Chapter 654
Chapter 654 She's Not Willing
When Chloe got married before, she thought that if she just became the person Michael wanted her to be, their relationship would last.
But reality proved her wrong.
She realized that for two people to stay together, it was not about changing into what the other person wanted. It was about mutual acceptance, mutual attraction, and finding harmony in their differences. And constantly compromising wasn't the answer.
If she and Michael couldn't accept each other's true selves, then they simply weren't compatible.
Change might be possible in the short term, but not for a lifetime, and Chloe didn't want Michael to be constantly on edge around her.
Hearing her words, Michael felt a lump in his throat.
"Chloe, are we... really impossible?"
Her question made Chloe stop and think carefully.
She didn't hold any resentment towards Michael anymore, and she could even be a friend with him.
But when it came to remarrying him, she just wasn't willing.
Simply put, they could be friends but not lovers.
"Let's just go with the flow."
Chloe looked up at the starry sky overhead and slowly said those words.
She believed that letting things take their natural course, without forcing anything, was the best way.
She expected Michael to be disappointed by her response, but in reality, he was content just knowing that Chloe no longer hated him.
To him, her words meant that there were still countless possibilities for them in the future.
And it also meant she hadn't completely shut the door on those possibilities.
That was enough to make him happy.
When they returned, Maggie was already gone, which surprised Chloe. She had been planning to prepare a room for Maggie to stay the night. "Where did she go?"
"She left."
James was already back to watching TV as if nothing had happened.
"What did she talk to you about?"
Chloe admitted she was a bit curious, but she genuinely wanted to know.
"She asked to borrow money."
Chloe was shocked.
"What? Borrow money?!"
She never would have guessed that Maggie would ask James for money.
She thought, "Wasn't Maggie here to reconcile with James? How could she talk about money if they were reconciling?"
"I'm tired. I'm going upstairs to rest,"
James hobbled upstairs with his cane, leaving Chloe and Michael standing there, unsure of what to do.
In truth, Maggie hadn't asked James to borrow money.
She had spent the entire
conversation talking about how wrong she had been in the past, hoping James would give her another chance. Têxt belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
"James, don't you miss all the feelings we had back then? We were torn apart by misunderstandings, not because we stopped loving each other So why can't we give ou relationship another chance
Maggie was a proud person, whether in school or later in her career.
She had never humbled herself like this except in front of James, where she repeatedly lowered her pride.
"Maggie, we didn't break up because of a misunderstanding. You chose your career over me."
James understood that Maggie's choice wasn't wrong. Not everyone prioritized love above all else.
But he believed that if Maggie had given up on him once for her career, there was nothing to stop her from doing it again.
Besides, their relationship was already over. He didn't understand why Maggie was holding on.
"No, it's not like that. I admit I
underestimated how much you meant to me back then, but I know now! It's like Michael and Chloe. Michael realized how much he loves her, so he's asking for her forgiveness, isn't he?"
