A Successful Career After Divorce

Chapter 43 Sprained Ankle

The tiles were wet!

And it seemed that the high heels Shannon gave her were not very slip-resistant!

In a split second, Ranita’s fingers hit the wall heavily, stabilizing her body but twisting her ankle fiercely.

The piercing pain made Ranita break out in cold sweat.

“Ah! Ranita, are you okay?” Shannon was anxious and turned around in circles, but upon closer inspection, she had no intention of reaching out to help.

“Ranita, are you okay? Can you get up?” Shannon said with a distressed face. “It’s not that I don’t want to help you. We had a misunderstanding before. If you complain to Brendon about me, I won’t be able to explain myself clearly! I… I…”

Shannon drooped her eyes and looked very aggrieved.

But Ranita clearly saw the smile at the corner of her mouth and the schadenfreude in her eyes. Of course, Ranita didn’t expect Shannon to help herself either. She took a deep breath and slowly leaned against the wall after taking off her high heels on one foot.

“Thank you for your concern, Miss Murphy. I’m fine,” said Ranita calmly. “Mr. Semeraro has gone back to rest and my work here is done as well so I’ll take my leave now.”

Fine!? Shannon couldn’t believe it! How could there be nothing wrong when she almost fell down?

But Ranita was too calm; she didn’t even furrowed her brows!

For a moment, Shannon couldn’t tell if what she said was true or false.

“Although Mr. Semeraro has gone back to his hotel room, we still have dinner later,” said Shannon eagerly. “If there’s nothing wrong with your ankle, then we’ll need you later.”

“After all we’ve signed contracts!”

Ranita pursed her lips and suppressed any emotions, “What time does it start? I will arrive on time.”

“At eight o’clock tonight; looking forward for your arrival!” exclaimed an excited-looking Shannon. “Ranita, you must come!”

Before leaving, Ranita glanced at the water stain on the floor, a small patch right at the entrance of the bathroom. She remembered it wasn’t there when she went in… Was it Shannon’s doing?

But for now, Ranita had to bear with the pain in her ankle. As she got into her car and slumped onto her seat, she let out a hiss of air. “It hurts so much!”

Checking her watch, Ranita realized it was already past five o’clock. Going to the hospital to treat her wound would take too long.

Unless…

Ranita didn’t want to trouble Steve but her ankle was just too painful! She needed a doctor’s help.

“Dr. Pearson, I’m sorry! I hate to bother you!” Her voice was low and drained as she looked down with disappointment.

“It’s okay! I just finished my shift anyway.” Steve examined her ankle and found that while left foot was fine, the right one had swollen up…Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

When he received Ranita’s call earlier on, he asked if there were any injuries besides that which brought along an ice pack for swelling, “Apply this on your ankle first.”

“Is there anywhere else that hurts?”

“No…” Before Ranita could finish speaking though, Steve caught hold of one of fingers, “Half your nail is broken off – don’t tell me you’re not hurting!”

Only then did Ranita realize that indeed one of nails had cracked open and some blood seeped out.

“Don’t you feel any pain?” Steve opened his medical kit and took out some disinfectant iodine while glancing at her from time-to-time through his rimmed glasses which made him look very sexy.

Ranita suddenly remembered the incident and apologized to Steve, saying, “Dr. Pearson, during our last meal, we ran into Brendon, and he misunderstood us…”
