A Reborn Bride Pearl Emerging from Dust

Chapter 586

Calliope had no problem taking the lead herself, but she definitely needed a few good assistants for the job.

Since this was an orthopedic case, she figured she'd ask the hospital director to loan her a couple of their best orthopedic doctors and nurses.

"We're gonna need some real pros on this one," Calliope said, taking a sip from her mug of coffee in the director's office. "This surgery isn't exactly a walk in the park. Whoever you've got on staff with the most experience, doctors, nurses, anyone, you mind letting me borrow them for a bit?"

The director shrugged, almost too casually. "Hey, you can pick whoever you want. If it were up to me, I wouldn't know which specialty you prefer. Personally, I think all our doctors are top-notch."

He paused, giving her a sideways look. "You're really planning to operate on Horatio?"

"He already came here for a checkup, you know," the director added. "All our doctors said his legs was a lost cause. You really think you can get him back on his feet?"

Calliope nodded. "I'd say there's a better than ninety percent chance. Unless something totally unexpected happens, I'm confident."

The director let out a low whistle. "You're something else, you know that? Hey, while I've got you, our hospital's been looking to expand our integrative medicine department. Any chance you'd consider leading it? You'd be a catch, Calliope." His eyes practically sparkled with hope. He'd been trying to recruit her for ages. But, as always, Calliope just shook her head.

"Honestly, I don't have the time," she said with a little shrug. "You know how crazy my schedule's been lately. Everything's running behind."

She grinned, “But if you ever want a chess partner, let me know. I can always make time to come kick your butt at the board. But regular clinic hours? Not a chance!"

The director shot her a suspicious look. "You're not moonlighting at some other hospital, are you?"

Calliope couldn't help but laugh. "No way, you're safe. Cross my heart."

"Alright then," the director said, finally relaxing.

"Come on, let's head over to orthopedics and see who's around."

He led Calliope down the hall to the orthopedic department. Soon, she was

The director told her to ask anything, or let him know if she needed someone with a specific skill set.

The orthopedic staff had all been gathered together, and they stood around trading confused glances. None of them had any idea what was going on. There was a bit of

hushed whispering.

Calliope spoke up, addressing the group. "Hey could you all tell me a little about your specialties? I'm putting together a team for a pretty complicated surgery and need a few folks to assist. I want to make sure everyone's got the right experience for the case."

Even though they didn't really know what to make of her, they each gave a quick rundown of their areas of expertise.

"Alright, I'll take you... you... and you," Calliope said, pointing out a few staff members. "You three look like you'd be a perfect fit."

The chosen ones glanced at the director, stearly looking for some kind of confirmation. Honestly, it all felt a little arbitrary. They didn't know who Calliope was, and she looked so young, just a girl, really.

Who did she think she was, waltzing in and picking assistants for surgery? Was she the director's niece or something? What if something went wrong? Who'd take the fall?

One of the doctors finally spoke up, a little nervously. "Um, can we say no?"

The director shook his head. "Nope. This is a golden opportunity to learn from the Miracle Doctor herself. You'd be crazy to turn it down!"
