Chapter 42 What the Hell Is This Bitch Plotting?
Emilia was situated on the tenth floor. Though she was placed under the secretarial department, she
was still a newbie in a probationary period and therefore, she wasn’t qualified enough to be situated on
the top floor where the CEO was, leaving her no choice but to remain on the tenth floor.
After Diane arrived at the tenth floor, she cautiously stepped out of the lift and couldn’t help but look
around in awe. But just then, she felt someone grasping her forearm.
It was none other than Christopher who was holding her bag of dessert steady. With his fingers still
around her forearm, his expression darkened.
“Why did you run away?”
“I’m not here for you since you’re such a busy man. I’m looking for Emilia.”
Diane took less than a minute to recompose herself in the lift.
She scolded herself internally for having those silly thoughts just a moment ago. After all, what
happened between Christopher and Queenie was none of her business.
It was only strictly marriage and no love between the both of them, so why should it bother her so
much?
Her train of thought seemed to be convincing enough to calm herself down. Regaining her composure,
she managed to squeeze a smile at Christopher despite his cold manner.
However, seeing the smile on her face made him furrow his brows even more, and he gazed hostilely
at her.
“Is this for Emilia too?” he referred to her dessert box.
Christopher was still weighing the bag of dessert before it was swiftly taken away by the rightful owner.
“Yeah, it’s her favourite.”
Therefore, the dessert that she brought had nothing to do with him; her sister was the only reason why
she was here.
At once, he felt a pang of disappointment, and a sudden regret washed over him, for wasting so much
time just to catch up to her.
“Off you go then. Don’t linger around. You might bother the other employees.”
With that, Christopher let go of her arm reluctantly and turned around to leave.
“What’s the rush? Tending to your impatient superiors?”
With a purse of her lips, Diane huffed with annoyance and left to find her sister at the secretarial
department with her bag of goodies.
When she reached the secretarial department, she peeked into it and spotted Emilia working at her
desk. The office felt solemn. There was no sight of the usual office gossiping, only diligent employees
performing their duties quietly.
This was what the renowned Evergreen Incorporated looked like. By the looks of its stern working
environment, it looked like Emilia would have to tame her attitude a bit no matter how willful she could
be at times.
Seeing this, Diane felt proud of her and mentioned to a passing by colleague that she was looking for
Emilia.
After Emilia came out, she handed the desserts over to her and left promptly after a brief conversation
as she did not want to be a bother to her colleagues.
Truthfully, some of the desserts were meant for Christopher but obviously, there was no need for that
now.
Diane did not return home immediately after she left Evergreen Incorporated, instead, she took an en
route to NG Enterprise. Even though her long leave of absence was approved by Christopher, she still
wanted to retrieve some of her belongings from the office.
As soon as she stepped into the revolving door, a heavily pregnant lady caught her eye. It was none
other than Stella who seemed to be carrying a cardboard box.
Stella exited the lift with a backpack on her. It was still office hours; in that case, was she here to
resign?
Seeing this, Diane hesitated for a split second before heading towards her.
Stella stopped in her steps when she saw Diane. Her face was expressionless, just like everything did
not happen before.
“Diane. I’m quitting,” said Stella.
Hearing this, Diane couldn't help but to stare at her small brown box, and then to her bloated stomach.
“You’re pretty brave, huh, quitting at this time.”
It was almost Stella’s due date. Resigning at this time seemed to be working against her odds, for this
meant that she would lose her income. Norman was still in jail, and with Elizabeth—an elderly who
came from a small village out of town—now unemployed, requesting a leave of absence was the better
option for her; she could have at least benefitted from the employment policies.
Diane just couldn’t quite figure out her reason of resigning now.
Just then, Stella lowered her gaze into the box and scoffed sarcastically. “What else can I do if I don’t
leave? What can a few thousand dollars of pay do? Norman is hopeless now that he is locked up in jail.
Diane, I can’t believe I’m admitting this but, nice play.”
As she spoke, her eyes met Diane, only to receive a cold reply in return. “Ever heard of the saying
‘What goes around comes around’? It was all you. You did this to yourself.”
Stella smiled even wider, her face turning cynical. “I chose Norman. However, the way he has ended up
now is all your fault. Diane, I never knew you were such a cruel person. I can’t believe you could
actually send someone you loved so much into jail.”
Diane was stunned by her words. She felt her anger rising and her patience thinning.
Instead of replying right away, she leaned closer to Stella. Looking straight into her eyes, Diane uttered
every word loud and clear.
“I don’t do charity work. You can be Mother Theresa if you’d like to, not me though.”
Stella looked away as though she had been slapped. Her eyes darkened with hatred.
The stare down lasted for a few more seconds. Diane was the first one to break the tension, and she
confidently strutted towards the lift.
She was often reminded by her past relationship and marriage with Norman by the Adlers, Stella, and
even Norman himself, just to make her feel guilty.
Was this a sick joke? Had they already forgotten how Norman forced her to take nudes, raped her and
used them to blackmail her later? And yet she should still be grateful for their kindness?
No matter how much she loved him back then, the feeling had now disappeared completely seeing the
terrible things he had done to her. She remembered the time when she caught Norman and Stella
coming out of the hospital. Instead of feeling guilty, Norman greeted her with a harsh slap on the face.
Not only did that slap cause her to fall and lose her baby, but at that moment itself, she lost her feelings
towards Norman as well.
Even though she was terribly upset after that incident, it was only because she pitied herself for loving
the wrong man.
But now, she overcame her grief. Norman meant nothing more to her than a stranger.
She did not want to waste her time dwelling on the past anymore.
Diane entered the building lift. As soon as the door closed, she buried these unpleasant reminders of
the past with Norman in the back of her head; he was not worth her time anymore.
After gathering her belongings from the office, she came back down after chatting with her colleagues
for a while.
“Miss Cornell.”
It was a new receptionist who joined the company about six months ago.
Dianne turned around and leaned over the counter where the new girl was. “Miss Cornell, after you left,
Stella squatted on the floor for quite some time. I don’t think she was feeling well. What did you say to
her?”.
Taken aback, Dianne looked towards the empty area where they had their conversation just a moment Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
ago.
The new girl added, “We went over to help her as she seemed to be in so much pain, but we couldn’t
do much. She was sent to the hospital by a manager from the management level after that. I just
wanted to let you know just in case. I don’t think you were aware as it happened only after you left.
She’s pregnant, so if…..”.
The new girl had no ill intentions; she just wanted to inform Diane, just in case.
Howver, when Diane heard this, she was bewildered as Stella seemed fine and healthy when they
were arguing moment before. Why did her stomach suddenly hurt?
Ws this some sort of plan Stella plotted to put the blame on her? This was the only plausible
conclusion.
Wait, if that was really the case, Stella would make sure that the whole company knew about this; she
wouldn’t just leave without making a scene.
What the hell was this bitch plotting?
