Chapter 71
After a long pause, he pressed a hand to his forehead, clearly exhausted. "There are too many people watching me. I have to keep up appearances."
She let out a self-mocking laugh.
So, was everything he did for her in the past also just for appearances?
It must have been exhausting for him-back when his so-called first love wasn't around, he played the part of a perfect boyfriend. But now that his first love was back, he had to go all-in with the performance,
"I know you've been wronged. Just bear with it for now, and I promise I'll make it up to you later, okay?" His voice softened as if he were coaxing a child, as if their argument wasn't worth dragging on.
But she remained firm. "I'm really getting married."
Yet from his expression, it was clear-he still didn't believe her. Instead, he casually pulled out a box from the side and handed it to her. "Alright, enough. I already had someone fix your necklace. Don't make jokes like this again."
The roar of the engine drowned out whatever she had been about to say. She hesitated, then leaned back into her seat, choosing not to explain further.
Fine. Let him believe whatever he wants.
That night, her father sent her a message reminding her to pick out her wedding dress and rings. A series of pictures soon followed, dazzling Olivia with choices.
She was carefully making her selection when Joe walked out of his room after showering. Seeing her so focused, he asked casually, "What are you looking at?” She paused, but still answered honestly. "Wedding dresses and rings." She didn't lie.
Yet the man in front of her suddenly became furious, his brows furrowing tightly. "Didn't we agree not to bring that up again?"
Looking at the anger and irritation on his face, Olivia didn't bother explaining further.
Soon enough, he would know whether she was lying or not.
She rolled over onto the bed, casting all her thoughts aside and falling asleep. It wasn't until the next morning, when she got up, that she saw another string of numbers from her father.
"Olivia, this is the groom's number. If you have any questions, you can contact him directly. You're getting married soon-it's good to talk more."

After copying the number into her contacts, Olivia paused when she reached the name field. It suddenly occurred to her that her father had never mentioned the groom's name.
It seemed a little awkward to call just to ask for a name. She thought for a moment, then suddenly recalled a fitting phrase and quickly typed it in.noveldrama
Since she didn't know his name, a generic note would do just fine.
There was still nearly a month before the wedding, and Olivia had to continue working as usual. Several departments had come together to organize a networking event, and her department was among them.
It was meant to be an interdepartmental activity, but that afternoon, Sophia and Joe happened to pass by and
overheard the discussion.
"A networking event? That sounds fun! Joe, why don't you come with me? We can go to the French restaurant
another time."
A soft, coquettish voice rang beside him. Joe turned to glance at Sophia, who was tugging at his sleeve and acting coy. He dotingly tapped her nose, then changed course and walked in with her.
With the CEO himself joining in, the department heads naturally didn't dare to refuse. A large group of people soon made their way to the reserved private room. However, Joe's presence dampened the atmosphere. Some people tried to make themselves invisible, while others silently sipped champagne in the corners.
Time passed, but the mood remained stiff-until someone finally broke the silence by suggesting a game of Truth or
Dare.
As expected, games were the best way to liven things up. The atmosphere quickly became lively, even Joe joined in. But in the very first round, he lost.
Given his status, no one dared to propose anything too outrageous. After much discussion, they finally settled on a harmless punishment.
"President Evans, let's take a look at your photo album!"
True to his word, Joe didn't refuse. He took out his phone, opened his gallery, and let everyone see.
The album was filled with photos-all of Sophia.
The onlookers immediately erupted in excitement, marveling at their relationship.
"Wow, the whole album is just pictures of Miss Harris. President Evans, your love for her is truly deep!"
"So many pictures! Just taking them must have taken a lot of time, right?"
What do you think?
