Chapter 105 Heartless and Ungrateful
The waiter repeated it again, then added, “This is the Black Gold card, only available to those with a deposit exceeding ten billion.”
Most people who could afford a purple clay teapot were wealthy. The waiter, working in the store, had encountered wealthy individuals before and understood a bit about their world.
Freya was dumbfounded.
Recalling Elijah’s words, ‘Buy whatever you want,’ she finally grasped the meaning of the phrase.Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.
But how could she accept so much money from him?
The items were packed, and Linda took them.
“Here’s your card,” the waiter handed over the card with both hands.
Freya took it. Although it was just a card, it felt unexpectedly heavy, too heavy to hold. Elijah had said he liked her. Freya thought it was just a joke, never taking it seriously.
How could he give her such a card if it wasn’t genuine?
She forced a smile. Money could sway any woman, and she was no exception. Surprisingly, she felt a bit moved. Not because of the amount of money but because of his sincerity. If someone had ten thousand, willing to give you all ten thousand, that was their sincerity. If someone had a million, willing to give you a hundred thousand, that was still their sincerity.
“Madam, what are you thinking? Should we buy something else?” Linda asked, seeing Freya lost in thought.
Freya snapped out of it and said, “No, let’s go.”
Linda asked, “Do you feel that Mr Silverton is treating you better?”
Freya didn’t answer. In her heart, she did feel it. She just couldn’t admit it. She and Elijah could never be a real couple because she had a child, and the child’s father wasn’t Elijah.
Could Elijah raise another man’s child and be a stepfather?
Clearly impossible.
Since she knew it was impossible, why waste emotions?
Moreover, she couldn’t accept this money. But now wasn’t the time to think about these things. She composed herself and said, “Let’s go.”
Freya provided the address, and the driver took her there. Luckily, the specialist was at home today, so Freya wasn’t wasting a trip.
“Do you need something from me?” a man in his fifties, with some white hair at his temples but still looking spirited, asked directly.
He spoke straightforwardly.
Freya didn’t beat around the bush, “Yes, my father has brain cancer, and I’d like to ask you to be his attending physician.”
The specialist had admired Freya before. Today, she came to save her father, displaying filial piety; he couldn’t refuse.
“I promise,” he said.
“Thank you.” Freya was grateful. “I heard you like tea, and this is a small token of my appreciation. Please accept it.”
She placed the items on the table.
The specialist declined, “I can’t accept gifts…”
“Please, you must accept. I know you’re principled. I didn’t give it to you before you agreed, showing your integrity. I’m the junior here, consider it a token of my respect. Besides, you’ve helped me before, and I’ve always remembered it.”
Freya was sincere.
The specialist enjoyed tea, so he accepted, “I won’t let your kindness go to waste.”
Freya smiled, “You’re welcome.”
After the serious matters were discussed, they delved into some medical knowledge. The specialist became an expert because he focused on a specific disease. His extensive experience allowed him to broaden his knowledge. Freya learned a lot from their conversation. By the time they reached lunch, it was already noon. The specialist invited her to lunch, but Freya declined. She couldn’t bring herself to eat at his house.
She said, “I have other things to attend to.”
“Okay, I’ll be going to the hospital this afternoon,” the specialist said.
Freya thanked him again, “Thank you.”
“No problem.”
Leaving the specialist’s home, Freya returned to the villa. She slumped on the couch, lost in thought. She wondered whether to inform her mother about this matter. After all, Leo and Elowen had lived together as a couple for over twenty years. She felt Elowen had the right to know.
Taking out her phone from her pocket, Freya was about to call Elowen when the phone vibrated. It was a video from Elowen.
The message read:
[Our Kai is a month old, gained six to seven ounces during the month. Almost seven pounds now. Do you think he’s chubby?]
[Look at our little one. Does he take after you?]
Since Freya had contacted Elowen, she knew Freya had escaped from Ronan’s clutches but ended up in Elijah’s hands again. So, Elowen couldn’t come reunite with her yet. Freya assured her that she was fine and asked Elowen to take care of Kai.
Elowen didn’t want her daughter to worry and tried her best to take care of her grandson so that Freya could focus on her side without concerns.
Watching the video of the infant, lips curling into a smile, Freya responded, “My child, of course, takes after me.”
Hesitating for a moment, she sent another message, “I heard my dad is seriously ill.”
After a while, Elowen finally responded, “It would be better if he’s dead.”
Freya stared at the screen, contemplating the sincerity behind Elowen’s words.
Was it just anger, or did Elowen truly wish for Leo’s death?
“Madam, come have some fruit,” Linda interrupted Freya Stone’s thoughts, holding out a plate of food. Freya put down her phone and took a slice of cantaloupe….
At the hospital, Leo Stone lay on the bed, his eye sockets deep, complexion waxen, and his body significantly emaciated. The attending doctor for Leo brought in a specialist to assess Leo’s condition. All the necessary tests were done. In his case, surgery wasn’t deemed necessary. Without the surgery, he could live a bit longer. If they opted for surgery, it not only involved risks but also had a less promising outcome. Conservative treatment to extend life was the best option at the moment.
“This is our hospital’s specialist in this field. He came here to personally assess your situation,” the doctor introduced to Leo Stone.
Leo knew his condition was serious, but he still hoped for more time. Grateful for the specialist, he said, “Thank you. Is there still hope for me?”
He looked hopeful.
The specialist replied, “If you cooperate with the treatment, we’ll do our best. There is definitely hope.”
“Really?” Leo’s eyes brightened.
“You need to relax, stop constantly thinking about your illness. Many patients with more severe conditions have exceeded expected treatment outcomes. It starts with having a positive mindset.”
“I see.” Answered Leo.
“I understand your situation, and I’ll work together with Dr Lee for your treatment. Have confidence.” Said the specialist.
Leo nodded vigorously. “I will.”
“Oh, by the way, how did you come to see me?” Leo asked with some confusion. After all, he already had an attending doctor, and now a specialist had come too. He hadn’t deliberately sought out additional opinions, so why did this specialist come to treat him?
“Your daughter brought me here. She’s very filial,” the specialist said.
Leo muttered softly, “Freya.”
His daughter still cared for him. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have taken the initiative to find a specialist to assess his condition.
“She’s also a good doctor,” the specialist looked at him and said. “You’ve raised a good daughter.”
Leo had always opposed Freya becoming a doctor. However, he felt a sense of pride at this moment. In the past, he prioritized interests. Now he finally understood the greatness of doctors.
“She is indeed a good girl.”
Leo now wanted to see his daughter. After the doctors left, he called his son, “Bring your sister here.”
“I’ve already tried finding her. She’s heartless and ungrateful, not willing to care about whether you live or die. Why do you still want to see her?” Zane was still upset about Freya’s attitude that day.
Leo frowned, emphasizing, “She is your elder sister.”
“My elder sister? I don’t think she sees me as a younger brother. I heard that when I was sentenced to prison, she could have asked for help from Elijah, but she didn’t. It shows she doesn’t care about me,” Zane said, wearing a casual outfit, sitting on a chair, head hanging.
Leo patiently told his son, “You need to be sensible and obedient in the future. Help me find her. I have something to say to her.”
“She won’t come!” Zane shouted. After saying that, he ran out but collided with someone at the door.
He looked up and saw the person, eyes wide open.
How could it be her?!
