CHAPTER 92
Chapter 92 Brenda Wakes Up
I couldn’t answer Cecil.
After all, I remembered that the girl got married.
I restarted the car, smiled lightly. “I wish you could.”Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
Cecil readily agreed. “Okay.”
I drove Cecil to the building, hesitated. “Is your injury okay?”
“Don’t listen to Abigail’s nonsense.”
Cecil took the medicine and easily resolved my embarrassment. “Ivan is at my place, let him take care of it.”
“Okay,” I felt relieved. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to help Cecil with his wounds, but it would involve removing his shirt, which might not be appropriate given my status.
Cecil would probably feel awkward too.
As I was about to return the car keys to Cecil, Cecil suddenly looked over. “Did today scare you?”
1 squeezed my hand lightly and admitted that I was indeed scared when I saw Charlotte hitting Cecil like that.
A whip cracking, skin splitting.
But at that moment, I surprisingly shook my head. “I’m fine.”
“That’s good.”
Cecil didn’t take the keys. “It’s the weekend today, it’s not easy to get a taxi here, you drive off, I still have a car to use.”
I didn’t make a fuss either. After Cecil got out of the car, I sent Ivan a few instructions on how to treat the wound and
then slowly drove away.
Barry’s fingerprint identification, sent by someone, was already placed at the entrance of Riverside Garden.
It was the home door code given by myself.
I opened it and took a look, feeling relieved as it included fingerprint matching, confirming it was Evelyn’s.
After washing up and changing clothes in the bathroom, I felt refreshed, left with the fingerprint report in hand to the hospital.
When I arrived, Christopher looked over, asking, “Why did it take you so long?”
I replied, “I was held up by something.”

Since they were already getting divorced, there was no need to explain every detail. I shook the file bag in my hand, “1
have a surprise for you.”
“What is it?” Christopher raised an eyebrow curiously.
I handed it over. “You’ll see when you look.”
As long as Christopher delved a bit deeper, he would know how Grandpa Valence met his end.
It was the person Christopher had been protecting who had killed his grandfather.
Christopher took it, his slender fingers unwinding the thread on the paper bag.
Just as he was about to open it and take out the documents, Christopher’s phone rang.
It was Evelyn calling.
Christopher frowned, declined the call, and just as he was about to take out the documents, Donald’s call came in.
Christopher could decline, but Donald couldn’t. He was responsible for Evelyn’s travel arrangements.
Donald answered, and then he solemnly responded. Tll inform Mr. Valence right away.”
With just that sentence, I suddenly had a foreboding feeling.
And this kind of premonition was often very accurate!
The next moment, I saw him hang up the phone and turned to Christopher, reporting, “Mr. Valence, Miss Valence said
Brenda has woken up.”
I stiffened!
Christopher was first stunned, then his expression changed. “Really?”
Donald said, “This time it doesn’t seem fake.”
It seemed this wasn’t the first time they had deceived Christopher with this.
Christopher set the documents aside and got up eagerly. Looking at me, he asked, “Brenda woke up. Do you want to
come and see?”
“Yes!”
I readily agreed.
At least to see whether she had truly awakened or not.
Evelyn opened the door, dressed in a winter dress, and upon seeing Christopher, excitement flashed across her face, but when she glanced at me, her expression turned cold.

She uttered, “Christopher, you’re here so quickly.”
“Hope and I want to see Brenda. Is It convenient now?” Christopher asked lightly.
Evelyn glanced at me. “It’s convenient, my mom has been waiting for you. However, it’s better for Hope not to go in first. The doctor said my mom has been in a coma for too long, and her memory is quite confused. It’s best for her to see only familiar faces first to avoid affecting her physical and neurological recovery.”
The way she said it made it seem like I entered would be an unforgivable sin.
I wasn’t that insensitive, so I looked at Christopher and said, “You go in, I’ll leave first.”
“In that case,” Christopher glanced at Evelyn with cold eyes, then wrapped his arm around my shoulder, “we’ll wait a few days for Brenda to recuperate before coming to visit.”
I glanced at Christopher in surprise, wanting to push his hand away, but he seemed oblivious, unmoving.
“Christopher,” Evelyn’s face reddened, embarrassed, “You sent me away yesterday, and now at this time, you still…
“Evelyn, enough.” A weak female voice came from the ward, “Let Christopher and Miss Royston in quickly.”
Evelyn reluctantly said, “Come in.”
Although Brenda had been in a coma for so many years, with top medical care, her condition seemed quite good.
As soon as Christopher entered, Brenda grabbed his hand, tears streaming down her face.
If I hadn’t known the truth beforehand, I might have been moved by Brenda’s maternal display of affection.
Brenda cooed, “As long as you’re safe, my years of coma are worth it.”
“Chris, I’ve heard from Evelyn, you’re married, Mr. Valence won’t allow you to marry her.”
“That’s no big deal. Miss Royston, please don’t mind. They had a good relationship back then, and I just find it a pity.”
I smiled ambiguously. “Why would I mind? Thanks to your daughter, Christopher and I are getting divorced soon.”
This matter was probably already told to Brenda by Evelyn before their arrival.
But Brenda’s reaction, going from shock to anger to finally apologizing to me, was a performance of utmost coherence. “Miss Royston, don’t mind Evelyn, she’s just babyish, once she sets her mind on something, she won’t let go. Christopher is used to indulging her.”
The whole performance was highly organized. And there was no admission of Evelyn’s wrongdoing.
I chuckled, speaking quickly, “Personality traits can be inherited. I wonder if her relentless nature is inherited from you?”
Pushing a pregnant woman who was about to give birth down the stairs just to enter the Valence family.

Evelyn’s methods were even more cunning compared to Brenda’s.
As I spoke, Brenda’s face changed, looking hurt and confused, almost on the verge of tears. “Miss Royston, have you misunderstbod something?”
Brenda tugged at Christopher’s arm. “Christopher, did I say something wrong just now? Please explain to Miss Royston. I’ve been in a coma for so many years, I might have said some inappropriate things. Please don’t take them to heart.”
Christopher thought that I was venting her dissatisfaction about Evelyn causing my miscarriage. He gave me a meaningful look and said softly.“Brenda is unaware of those things. Don’t direct your anger at her.”
“What things?”
Brenda paused slightly, then spoke with a weighty tone, “Whatever it is, I hope you will take care of her more for the sake of my only daughter.”
“Mom!” Evelyn seemed to be greatly wronged, accusing, “They are already planning to send me abroad, to Eldoria!”
Brenda looked at Christopher in astonishment. “Christopher, what Evelyn said can’t be true, right?”
